February 24th updates

I would have to say that today was a huge milestone for our kiddos. Wow, what a day… Max was officially off the breathing machine this morning. All of them are officially breathing on their own. The nurses and doctors are very surprised and impressed with their excellent progress so far. We also can hold our babies now and as much as we want to. :)

Syd and Seb were officially graduated from closed ICU “house” and moved to their own “cribs”. Max was also ready to move over to a “crib” but NICU did not have any “cribs” left. The NICU here is almost FULL and very busy this week. Once a “crib” is available, he will be moved over to one. It is a TRUE BLESSING!!! :)

I had the opportunity to feed Syd with 1 ml of breast milk through a bottle. She does not know how to suck and swallow yet so the nurse assisted Syd with eating. She was placed back on IV to relay on more nutrients to keep growing.

Seb is still on IV and not eating yet due to high levels of magnesium. Nothing to be overly concerned about according to doctor. He should hopefully be able to eat tomorrow or so. Max is fed through tube in his left nostril. Max has a little bit high level of magnesium as well. Some of you may wonder of how they got high level of magnesium; it is from the medications that was given to the surrogate for the past several weeks to keep them inside the womb for as long as possible.

All of them have lost few ounces but was told that it is normal to lose some weight in the beginning. All of them are off antibodies as they all are officially bacteria-free so far!! YIPEEE! :)

Sean and I had opportunities to check their body temperature and change diapers. Preemie diapers are extremely SMALL. WOW! While Sean was changing Seb’s diapers, Seb decided to pee again. It was so funny watching Sean trying to get a control of it with new diapers. This happened not once but TWICE! :D

We also had pictures taken with all three babies together on both Sean and myself.
All three babies had their footprints done. We signed our names on their birth certificates today. The certificates will be processed and ready in a few weeks. Wendy, a friend of our, was the first visitor today to see the babies. She was in awe of the babies.

As for when the babies will be discharged, there isn’t a definite answer as it all depends on the babies and their progress with being able to breathe independently, regulate temperature, and eat and swallow without any issues. It could be one week or three weeks so we have no definite answer. It is doubtful all three babies will be released at the same time but again too early to tell. We are very relieved and thrilled with their progress so far and that there have been NO major complications.

We are staying at the hospital again tonight. We will try to stay at the hospital again tomorrow night. We will be staying at a hotel on Thursday and Friday nights. A good friend of ours is flying in on Thursday and we will be staying with him at a hotel.

Few things we forgot to mention from last night – We got to dress them (with nurses’ assistance due to their tubes and wires) with their first bodysuits. SO CUTE!! :) Syd is wearing a pink bodysuit that says “My heart belongs to my daddy” Seb is wearing a red bodysuit that says “Born in 2009”. Max is wearing a dinosaur-themed bodysuit. And we got to hold our babies for the first time yesterday :) :) :) They are soooo adorable and honestly some pictures do not do them justice!! :)

For those who wish to visit us and our babies while we are here in San Diego , rule of thumb is to be healthy and not sick to be able to go in NICU to see our babies. Also you must bring us a meal! (Just kidding about that one!) :)

As many of you have asked us to keep you updated via email or Facebook, it is difficult and time-consuming for us to keep EVERYONE updated with all going on here hence our reason for starting this blog. We hope this blog will help by keeping you all updated as often as we can.

If you have any comments, questions, or whatever, feel free to make “positive” comment here. Questions can also be asked via comment board as we have been getting a lot of similar questions from people. We will be sure to answer them on this blog as this will greatly help us all and allow us to be on our pagers less and with our babies more. :)

Be in touch. Love you all! :)
